The point spread also called 'the line' or 'the spread' is used as a margin to handicap the favorite team. For betting purposes, the oddsmaker predicts that the favored team will win by a certain number of points. This number of points is the point spread. The favorite is always indicated by a minus sign (e.g. -5.5) and the underdog without (e.g.5.5). If you bet on the favorite, you win your bet if the favorite wins AND their margin of victory is greater than the point spread. If you bet on the underdog, you win if the underdog wins, ties, or if the favored team wins but fails to exceed the point spread. It is standard for point spread bets in most sports that you wager $110 to win $100.
A money line, used in baseball and hockey, takes the place of a point spread. Money line betting is simply wagering on the contest based on a given price rather than a point spread. The team wagered on has to win the game outright, regardless of the score. The minus sign (e.g.-130) always indicates the favorite and the amount you must bet to win $100. The line without the minus sign (e.g.120) always indicates the underdog and the amount you win for every $100 bet. Using this example, therefore, you would bet $130 to win $100 on the favorite, while for the underdog you would bet $100 to win $120.
The Total also called 'over/under' is the number of points oddsmakers expect will be the total score for the contest (both teams combined, overtime included). You bet on whether the total points scored will be more or less than this number. As with point spread bets, you must generally wager $110 to win $100.
Current American players now find that when they log into their Bodog accounts they are automatically shifted to Bovada.lv, a site that has the same exact look and feel of other Bodog properties. Anybody in the US going to the original Bodog site (bodog.eu) is now being transfered to Bovada.lv.
Bodog has always been a safe and trustworthy place for online sports betting and we don’t see any reason why that will change with a new name. After all it is the same group operating Bovada that operates and runs Bodog. The major difference (besides the similar name) is that Bovada is only open to US players, which should not affect anything.

What is Bovada?
Is Bovada Sports Betting Legal
The Bovada name is a cross between BOdog and neVADA and even uses the LV domain extension to try and give it some Las Vegas feel. When you go to the site, you will even see a picture of Las Vegas from the desert, with the Stratosphere standing out most. What’s the catch? The domain name has absolutely nothing to do with Las Vegas. The “lv” stands for Latvia. This is where Bovada Poker is based. It’s also operated by the Morris Mohawk Gaming Commission.
How will this affect sports betting?
It does not appear that Bodog’s sportsbook will be any different on their new Bovada.lv site, with sports betting, poker and casino games still available. The new site went up Decemeber 14, 2011 and has not been running long enough to fully judge if it will have an impact on online gaming, but other companies are sure to be watching closely to see if this approach will help thread the needle of federal online gaming regulation.
I live in the US, does my Bodog account still work?
If you currently bet or play poker at Bodog, you have nothing to worry about. Everything will be transferred to Bovada without you having to do anything. This includes username, password, cash balance, points balance and preferences. They want it to be a smooth transition. If you like to play more than poker, you can also access a sportsbook, casino games and horse racing from the site.
